These small squids, the Southern Bobtail Squid (Euprymna tasmanica), grow to only 4 cm in length and are often found in seagrass beds and underneath piers. During the day they bury themselves in the sand, emerging at night to hunt for small shrimp and fish. At night the squid uses a light organ, containing glowing bacteria, to hide its silhouette from upward looking predators. Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia
